Hannibal mermaid AU - The statue of the princess

Will had never seen anything like it.  At least not in person. He'd heard and heard about human ships, but he'd never imagined seeing one so up close... And so grand for that matter. Whoever owned it must have been very wealthy, if not very important.

He looked up at the sky. For now, it was clear, but the moon was far from full and with thick clouds making their presence on the horizon, he would be covered enough... He checked once back under the waves. No one. Once certain he was alone, he moved closer to the ship.

He suddenly understood why Dolphins made such a fuss about swimming along side these monstrous things. For any thrill seeker, the waves would have been enough to pursue the chase... Though Will would never have defined himself as a thrill seeker. Eventually, though, he was able to grab hold of one of the ropes attached to the side of the ship and pull himself upward towards a small opening. Resting himself on a jutted out edge, he very carefully looked through the opening.

It was a festival or party of some kind. Decorations, music... Humans dancing. 

Humans. 

Will knew what humans looked like, of course, but to them up close... He had to admit, legs were far less as agile than a tail, but if someone were to master both swimming and standing...  Their garments seemed far from practical. Heaven forbid one of them fell overboard, they'd drown-

A strange noise pulled his attention away from the humans and towards a rather odd creature approaching him. This, obviously, was not a human, but Will could think of nothing he could compare it to. The closest was that of a small whale calf, but it was covered in what he believed to be hair. It had white, speckled hair, a grey snout and brown eyes... 

And it was headed right for him.

He backed up quickly, considering jumping back into the water, when he suddenly found himself face to face with it.

Will remained perfectly still as the creature sniffed him curiously, showing no sign of aggression as far as he could guess. Suddenly, it began licking his cheek, it's large tail moving furiously back and forth. Will wasn't certain, but it seemed to be a sign that the creature was friendly. Choosing to push his luck, a reached up a gently touched the creature's neck. The hair was surprisingly soft and the creature seemed to like the attention, indicating its happiness with more licks and a nuzzle to Will's cheek.

"Applesauce!" A voice called out. "Come here, girl!"

The creature quickly moved away from Will towards an approaching human before settling itself at the human's feet. Will looked up at her.

About his size, from what he could gather, a human with flowing brown hair, intelligent, kind features and powerful blue eyes. She carried herself in a nobel manner, yet the way she spoke to this creature suggested a warm heart.
